e-    Philosophy of Teaching

Recently, Saudi Arabia is focusing on sending a large number of students to study abroad in order to make some development and changes in the teaching / learning process. Unfortunately, in my country, the style of closed teaching is dominant in schools and universities where students are playing the role of the receivers, while teachers have the absolute power to direct and guide the whole education process. I think that, this antiquated system should be stopped because it does not help the students to innovate. Nowadays, the Saudi government aim to make a new revolution in the teaching system that intent to help students achieving better education, and as I mentioned above this is the purpose of sending students to study abroad.

After I am studying abroad in an open style university, my philosophy of teaching was changed from what it was before. When I return to my job as a lecturer at the university I will pay more attention to the students’ interests and needs. I will try to engage them in the teaching process as much as I can. Moreover, I will attempt to use different evaluation tools to evaluate students after explaining the nature of these tools to the students. I think that students should know why they get a specific score in order to avoid the same errors in future and that help their work improves. Teachers should give students their right in get some corrective feedback when they needed. In addition, students should have the chance to discuss, participate, argue, create projects, make presentations, work individually or work in groups. Students should be active and advantageous part of the teaching process. I will attempt to create a comfortable atmosphere in the classroom via lowering the level of anxiety and tension among students. My future role in the classroom will be a helper and supporter for students rather than absolute power to direct and guide the whole educational process.

f-     Research interest

I am interested in the field of special education, especially with gifted and talent students. I am planning to conduct a study that explores parents’ perspectives on the labelling of their children as gifted by primary schools in Saudi Arabia, Riyadh.
