College: College of Social Sciences and International Studies

I am currently Deputy Head Teacher and Head of Innovation at a special school that caters for a wide variety of learners with complex needs.  My main responsibilities include driving innovation across the school, encouraging and leading research, developing school media and branding, overseeing outreach (“Specialist Strategy Support”) and driving collaborative working partnerships with other educational establishments and professionals.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music, a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education and Masters Degree in Education.

From the very beginning of my career in education I have held a real passion for innovation and research.  In my first year I received a national award for innovation and have continued to build on this passion ever since. I have lead the development and implementation of a variety of new initiatives across the school and continue to strive to find and develop new strategies for teaching and learning.

I have been fortunate enough to not only attend, but deliver at a variety of conferences including in house training, Selworthy conferences, Somerset SCITT, BETT, Naace and Communication Matters.  These experiences not only allow me to develop my own knowledge and practice and broaden my outward thinking, but allow me to contribute to the development of others in terms of knowledge and practice.

I consider joint working as an important part of developing teaching and learning; constantly sharing ideas, providing and receiving support and ultimately developing better practice.  Collaboration and team work within the education system and with other agencies is not only essential, but our responsibility.  We have a duty to work in partnership with others to constantly better the educational provision for all learners.
