After gaining a first degree in English Literature at University College,Cardiff I qualified as a Careers Adviser and subsequently worked in this field for some years.

Following a career break spent living abroad I decided to change career direction and gained an M.A. (Distinction)  in Interpretive Studies (Interpretation for Museums and Heritage ) by distance learning, from the Department of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester,

Whilst researching my thesis I currently work part-time in museums and heritage for Exeter City Council. My work in the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery initiated my Ph D. topic which examines the representation of the material culture of big game hunting in the Age of Empire. This has developed from my research into the life and work of Charles Victor Alexander Peel, the donor of a large part of Exeter museum's natural history collection .

I am now in the final year of my part-time Ph.D. and work as a Post-graduate Teaching Assistant on a range of courses in Art History and Visual Culture as well as in the School of English. This has enabled me to develop my interest in other aspects of visual and material culture, their relationships to social, historical and cultural constructs and their representation in literary and visual forms.
