My name is Caomhán, which is pronounced “Key-vawn” phonetically. My name is Gaelic, so you might have guessed that I was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
My last job was as a science teacher before becoming a trainee psychologist at Exeter. I trained to be a primary school science specialist at the University of Exeter in 2014-15, but taught biology and chemistry (and maths, and health and social care, and applied science etc!) at secondary schools in Belfast after qualifying.
Before training as a teacher I wanted to utilise my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Queen's University, Belfast. I therefore worked as a Support Worker for Leonard Cheshire Disability, and later as a dyslexia coach with undergraduate students at the University of Ulster.
I studied for an MSc in Educational Research last year. I graduated in December, and my MSc studies focused primarily on self-regulated learning (SRL), in particular the areas of metacognition, motivation and my personal favourite topic: procrastination.
I remain interested in science and gender, but most of my time is taken up learning how to be the best applied psychologist I can be (a little Exeter in-joke there).
Please feel free to send me an e-mail if you need me.
